What We Do

The Richmond Fellowship of NSW:

  • Provides a range of accommodation services that enable people with mental illness to live in the community in an environment of support and acceptance.
  • Provides and facilitates access to recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation programs that assist each person to optimise his or her potential to live a satisfying and meaningful life.
  • Prepares people with mental illness to take greater responsibility for their lives.
  • Provides flexible services that meet the identified needs of people with mental illness.
  • Involves friends and families in the services it provides.
  • Promotes positive attitudes towards people with a mental illnesss in the community and works to overcome prejudice and stigma.
  • Lobbies governments for increased resouces that will improve srevices for people with a mental illness.
  • Acts as an advocate for the rights of people with a mental illness.
  • Improves the quality of mental health care through staff development, education and on-th-job training.

How we work

We implement our strategies within a supportive environment that enables our service users to learn new ways of living with their mental illness, to achieve greater independence, self-understanding and awareness, and to increase their sense of confidence and self-esteem.

We ensure that all RFNSW service users have the opportunity to participate in the running of the services that relate to them and that they have proper advocacy and representation when dealing with others in the community.

We encourage individuals to achieve their own potential, whatever that may be for them, to set goals and participate as members of their community.

They are encouraged to participate fully in all household activities and contribute to the decision making process in their household as a means of increasing their living skills.

This includes supporting service users to:

  • Manage their mental and physical health as best as possible.
  • Participate in recreational, vocational, educational and social activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships.
  • Attend to the routine tasks of daily living such as budgetin, shopping, nutrition and household management.
