About the Opportunity
Centacare is seeking a full-time Counsellor – Sexual Assault to join their dedicated Family and Community Support Services Team in Central Highlands, based in Emerald.
Reporting to the Team Leader – Domestic and Family Violence, you will be responsible for providing therapeutic counselling to clients who have experienced sexual assault, using appropriate frameworks.
More specifically your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Providing psycho-educational workshops for individuals, communities and workplaces;
- Facilitating therapeutic groups and workshops for clients who have experienced sexual assault;
- Providing culturally appropriate services;
- Networking with other community agencies and stakeholders; and
- Working as a member of Centacare’s team and carry out your duties in a manner that reflects the mission and values of Centacare.
Centacare is seeking a dedicated professional with knowledge of the issues effecting families, children and clients experiencing sexual assault, child protection statutory intervention, domestic and family violence, child abuse or self harm and the appropriate responses. Along with sound discipline knowledge gained through extensive experience, you will have a knowledge of the Child Protection Act 1999, the Family Law Act 1975, the Domestic and Family Violence Act 1989 and any relevant amendments for each.
Ideal candidates will havea relevant degree (Psychology, Social Work or related) or an associate diploma with substantial experience. Candidates with less formal qualifications but with sufficient specialised skills attained through previous appointment service or study will also be considered.
It is vital that applicants bring professional judgement and personable communication style to this role, as a high level of confidentiality, privacy and care will need to be maintained with all stakeholders.
Whilst this position requires a degree of autonomy; setting priorities, monitoring work flow and providing effective reporting, you will also be required to work effectively within a team environment.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain relevant security clearances including Positive Notice Blue Card with Yellow Card exemption and Satisfactory Police Check. A Current C class license is also essential.
